Colorado Metropolitan District Reform
jeff
Colorado Metro District Reform is a group of citizens that would like to see reform of Special District Act provisions to make Metropolitan Districts more open and more responsive to all constituencies. The provisions of the Special District Act (which apply to Metropolitan Districts as one category of special districts) highly favor real-estate developers, often to the detriment of homeowners living in those communities.
We are a group of homeowners and others with an interest in seeing the playing field leveled for all members of Metropolitan Districts.
Read the details of the 2009 Metro District Reform SB 09-087 here. Congrats to Morgan Carroll and Cherylin N. Peniston for their leadership on this bill.
Update from SDA here.
Our primary purpose is to organize and share ideas among homeowners living in Metro Districts including:
information on how Metro Districts work
resources such as references to statutes
contact information for how to obtain information about your Metro District
support for reading and understanding key documents such as the Service Plan and Intergovernmental Agreements
Are you interested in learning more about Metro Districts? Having issues with Metro District boards and want to understand your rights? Want to run for a Metro District board seat and are not sure how?
Contact us and we'll be happy to answer questions and help you identify some resources.
We are a group of citizens that have organized to band together to learn from each other and to educate others about Metro District issues. We hope to provide a collective voice on behalf of the families that live in Metro Districts who typically are under-represented (often taxation without representation) and whose interests aren't sometimes considered.
We are not a law firm and cannot offer you legal advice. We are not lobbyists, though we will work groups and state representatives as citizens to encourage legislative reform.
